I am wondering if is there is a better fuel oil mix ratio then running 50:1 to get a little more life out of a 2 stroke engine?

For me I just use a good synthetic oil. I recently retired my 1980's McCulloch Mac Cat due lack of repair parts. The PNC was still in good; just got tire of dipping the bar to oil it. Now got a Husky 450 with 20" BNC and adjustable oil pump.

Welcome to the site.
Other than the hatred of other makes of saw's than their own lol
The mix ratio and brand of 2 cycle oil is another much debated topic.
For me since the 80s it's been 40/1
For everything never had a failure.
I keep everything tuned and clean.
I use red armor now 40/1 with great results.
But to each his own lol

Joking aside I run amsoil saber at 32:1, I think most guys here running ported saws run more oil than 50:1, not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with that ratio it just seems to be the norm to run more in my humble opinion

Reading the Amsoil Saber info that I just Googled says for it to be mix at either 80:1 or 100:1 ratios. Here I sell a multi mix synthetic oil that is recommend for anything that runs 50:1 to 16:1 ratios. Before I did customers were coming in with stuck rings and other fuel related problems and for most that have switched over they are not having the problems of incorrect ratios. Some are even glad that they are no longer having to try measure the correct amount oil per gallon and have multiple cans sitting around.

The problem I see with many oils that homeowners and others use is that it incorrectly measured as the measuring cup or spoon must be rinsed clean during use. There is some oil is always clinging to the measure. Even with pre-measured oils it is best to rinse the container with fuel mix and pour that rinse into the fuel container.

Just add a little more oil.
I like 32:1 for normal 2 cycle motors (4oz/gallon)
25:1 for the brutal stuff (5 oz/gallon)
Andy (Lakeside opinted out that extra oil actually leans the mix by displacing that much gasoline. He was our guru eight years ago. He was a Stihl mechanic and an engineer, and he swore Stihl Ultra 50-1 was good for any 2 stroker. I run it in my LawnBoy mower from the 90s, stihl starts first pull of the season after twenty.\\FWIW

Not another oil thread...

Run anything but Stihl Ultra, junk! Coming from a Stihl Head. If you must go 50-1 go full out good *s-word like H1R. I run 42-1 these days in most equipment. 35-1 Dino in screamers. I like the boundary layer of light carbon. They run a bit cooler.

Canola on the bar for smoker or cooking woods.

Veggie oil for the ladies pit wrestling :-)

Had to learn this the hard way on a YZ 125 dirt bike. Rebuilt the motor as it was time and thought more oil was better. Sounded like marbles in the motor the detonation was so bad. Pitted and got piston so hot the top concaved

You have to adjust carb or change jetting when going to a different mix.
