Bout had it with this carb on my main saw right now, a 357xp.
Any one have this issue of the throttle shaft sticking open in freezing temps?.
I use premium non ethanol, checked for water, none! Saw has very low hrs, 2004 build. I even removed the throttle link, and the cross shaft still sticks. As soon as I can get heat to the carb, its fine and runs great. Pretty sure that stupid accel pump is causing issues. Carb has been modified with compensating portion deleted, hole drilled in cover, fibre pump diaphragm instead of the blue one. Carb heater shutter is open. No problems when temp is 36 degrees F or hotter.
Would rather not have to convert over to that c3 el42 zama. What's the process for removing the plug that covers the accel pump piston?

As far as I know, rebuild parts for the accel pump are not available through Walbro. Did you try loosening the throttle plate mount screw and letting the throttle slam shut a few times to make sure it’s centered in the bore? Just a thought.

I might have a 199 I can send you, will look in my box of parts today

Appreciate that, a guy gets frustrated to a point, that grey area I'm in says just move on, on other hand, I do like this saw when it's running right. The carb has been on and off this saw almost every day in the last month. Sometimes it acts lean at idle, so I pop the cover and air filter and wack it a couple times with my felling axe, then it's back to normal. Other times I remove the carb and pull the idle and high speed screws to spray pb blaster in the holes, then she runs good again for about 6 hrs

At least I'm on a self induced vacation till the 1st. I can still work, if I want to that is. I read something about Mastermind where he was talking about deleting the accel pump. Problem is I'm not sure how to get that brass plug out

Certainly understand the frustrations. Has the plastic intake clamp and auto decomp been fixed on your saw??

I’ve never seen a delete pump thread. I think the easiest route is simply get an HDA198...it doesn’t have the accel pump but is the same carb otherwise.

A bit spendy repair, but, the results are positive and permanent. Worth something in my book.

I’ve had mixed results with the 199. I’ve had one that no matter what I did, it would not run right. I even did Scott’s mod to it. I’ve also had a few that were excellent.

That said, I have also used the Zama el42 and those that I had ran as well as my sorted out 199. The biggest thing was that they always ran and the stayed in tune. They use to sell new oem on eBay for $32. Those days are probably long gone though.

I believe it's(Zama) still the most cost effective of carbs for it, even if they're a little more now days.

Slightly over 100 dollars for a zama now. The major issue is I would have to order it, down time is killer for me right now. Even though I took vacation, I just got 2 firewood orders to fill now lol

You could buy the pump parts from stihl for the ms 200 if it is the same. Are you sure its the pump?
Carb icing can happen above 32*f
Maybe run it w/o the filter and quickly look on the bore for frost.
IDK. Have you tried to reset the throttle plate? Run it with the linkage disconnected?
Try a different gas and oil?
