Clean the plastics really good.
Get an appropriate sized pot, something that will hold enough liquid to get the plastics submerged.
Fill the pot with water and bring it to a slow boil.
Add a bottle of RIT dye to the water and stir it in.
Reduce heat to a simmer
Now add your super clean plastics.
Keep the plastics in the pot on simmer for as long as required. Note that the longer your soak the plastics the deeper the dye will penetrate.
Oh and you might want to do this outside maybe on the side burner of your BBQ.

I cooked my plastics for approx 1hr.

I should also mention that some plastics won't take the dye. I tried to dye max flow plastics and it didn't work. I think @PA Dan tried to dye a bar scabbard and it didn't work either

Thank you for the quick and detailed response. Is black my only option?

Cfb is correct in the procedure I used. I only dyed Stihl and Farmertech plastics. The orange was very easy and took the dye well. The orange I left in the pot for an hour to an hour and a half. The white tank I did took way longer. The scabbard plastic did not take the dye.

No it does not! Whatever the gloss is before the dye is what it will be after!

I think I read somewhere that the plastics with a high ethylene content don't absorb any dye or color after they're cast.

Sand the oxidation off. Start coarse 180 grit +/- depending how bad they are, and work your way fine.

@295 tramp did a plastic restoration thread where he sanded and buffed/polished smooth.

Dye works well once you sand the oxidation off. I sprayed some clear lacquer on top to give it a shine...it holds up decent if you aren't hard on your equipment.
