7900 or 7910 top end?

I got a 6421 coming. Dunno the difference ‘tween those two top ends.

You want the 7910 top end then, just so you can reuse your plastics. The biggest difference between the two is the placement of the decomp.

Disregard that it says EA7900. The EA7900 is the same as the PS-7910. Very confusing by Makita.

The older top ends are still available, if you know where to look, and are cheaper.

Part number 038-130-070

That will say DCS7901, and has the decomp on the starter side, different length decomp valve, and doesn’t have the step in the exhaust. It also has the newer design piston, like the 7910, so kinda best of both worlds.

Either will work fine. But the earlier 7900 cylinder will be better for what you do

I haven't been into one of these yet. Are the 7900's better suited for grunt vs. high rpm?

I can’t really say for certain. But from what I’ve noticed, the straighter exhaust flange of the 7900 seems to build better torque than the hollowed out exhaust flange in a 7901. Basically I was trying to tell wyby that the cheaper one was OK for what he wanted
