WANTED Dolmar 120 SI (1st gen) Muffler, oil/fuel caps, & Air Filter Cover

I sure appreciate it, fellas. This saw is a sentimental piece for a guy. Was his dad's. Dirty as sin right now but well taken care of otherwise. Top end looks very nice with killer compression and has spark you could weld with. Just starting on it after having it for a while waiting for enough time to give it a proper tear down and rebuild. I knew the muffler parts may be difficult to find but just stumbled across this thread yesterday. Looks like I'm in the right place!

I know I have a new screen. And a almost new air filter.

I gather the screen fits around a baffle that also serves as a spacer to keep the bolts from collapsing the front cover?

There are two sleeves built into the muffler that the screen goes around.

Doesn't look like anything was brazed or welded into this muffler unless it's missing another piece like a center panel. Here's what I have. (Sorry for the washed out housing shot.) Could actually use a whole muffler but I realize that's gonna be a reach. The IPL I have doesn't seem to have this particular muffler in it.

And I'd be interested in that air filter if it's an available item and not too pricey. The one on the saw has seen much better days.

FInally had a chance to go through a good portion of muffler goodies..and came up empty for that particular muffler.

How many mufflers were available for this series? Any chance there's another one that would be easier to find? Like I mentioned, the IPL I have is basically for the 112 (type 50) 'and other versions of this saw' which includes the 120S to a point. Very little detail about the differences among everything listed. The muffler housing on this saw has the side bracket as pictured in the IPL, but the cover seems to be a different style than the two that are shown. Chainsawr has plenty of pictures of what I need, but no joy on the inventory front.

and if those two fine gentlemen don't Have what you need it I may have some extra stuff as well,,,

they are very nice saws and well worth the effort to restore,,, The 68CC power head has butt loads of torque and I user mine alot around the wood pile,,, they will pull a 24" bar with authority

Appreciate it. Could still use a cover for the particular muffler style on this one. Has a chunk missing in the upper corner that was starting to melt the top cover in that area.

The saw is cleaning up real nice. Only other thing I ran across are buggered threads for the chain catcher which I think I can chase back into shape with a tap.

Now I wish it was my saw!

Oh.., about that chain catcher. Quite a head scratcher until I realized it's a left hand thread. Pretty weird.

The reason it’s left hand thread is because it’s on the pto side and the harmonics of the saw it would loosen over time if it were right handed.

They are very nice solidly built units,,, I have two SI's and one Super use them all the time,,,
so you got a muffler cover that works or put a band aid on yours??????

Used the one I have for the time being. Would still like to replace it for the guy so the top cover doesn't get any worse.

That's a new one on me. I understand the clutch threads, but...., harmonics of the saw? That's Husky's excuse for the mufflers falling off their 350's. Musta stole it from Sachs/Dolmar! (And all the other fasteners seem to be right hand threads.) It would seem like a more logical reason would be the direction of the chain if (when) it gets thrown against the catcher would be going in the 'tightening' direction.

Regardless, it took me a minute to figure it out. Was almost ready to re-tap and use a heli-coil when I got a handle on it. That woulda been a tough lesson learned the hard way!

Almost forgot...

Could also use an inner bucking spike. Haven't done any shopping yet and figured this is a good place to start.

It sounded good. LOL. I scratched my head on that one too. As far as dogs. I cut them out of a table saw blade with a plasma cutter. I have also used a inner dog off a Stihl 046. You have to modify it slightly but it will work. If you need a template to cut a set let me know.
