a 3/8 - 8T rim sprocket in small 7 spline?
I have been wanting to try an 8 tooth on my ported Dolmar 6100, and I just searched all over and can't find anyone selling or even making them. Am I missing something? I have too many chains to switch over to .325 pitch now, but I am guessing that's what guys must do to pick up speed on the ported 6100's.

Other than on a race saw I would not recommend using a larger than OEM sprocket on a 5k to 6100 Dolmar/Makita, ported or not.
IMHO, those saws clutch is undersized and a larger sprocket may increase the already inherent clutch slip.
Clutch slip equals heat, heat will damage the crank seal, the damaged seal will cause an air leak, the air leak will fry Your top end.
In my book it is not worth it!

How good are You at sharpening chains?
The gains in cutting speed are higher utilizing a sharper chain than utilizing higher gearing on a less than optimal sharp chain.

Also, use half way worn loops on Your ported 6100.
They are effectively narrow kerf, take a narrower bite, thus remove lesser wood, effectively keeping higher in cut PH rpm.

As You can see by my signature I own a ported 6100.
She is insanely fast without higher gearing as the porting itself already ensures higher in cut PH rpm which would be negated by a larger sprocket.

Just my humble thoughts on this topic.

Good luck, stay safe & have fun!

A 17t sprocket? Would love to see the modifications needed to run that, lol
Ain’t gonna fit under the stock cover 🤣
Hydraulic or PTO powered?

Most likely for a bike engine saw though. ;)

Thanks for the replies gentlemen.
I don't intend to use the 8 tooth for work, mostly for showing off. For the price of sprockets, I thought it would be worth a try.

Well the ones from Ed at Danzco (6K) are top notch but if price is a concern you might get a bit of a shock.

I have ran up to 13 pin 3/8 on old gear drives but that requires a tail mod. They will run an 11 pin fine. I have a Honda CR250 with a "larger sprocket" but that saw needs work.

I remember trying a 9 and 10 on my 066, many years ago. It was just silly. I suppose if running a 16” bar it would have worked :p

I put a 16" bar on a 3120 once........that was silly and not impressive at all. Somewhere around here I have some 13" hard nose bars for 090's.

Matsens has some but they are still pricy

I really didn't expect it would be difficult to find an 8T 3/8 sprocket, definitely not going to buy race saw parts for an experiment. I would be better off swapping a .325 bar & chain from a smaller saw and using a .325 8T if I feel the need to try it on the Dolmar.

As usual you guys came through with the answer I needed. Thanks again.

I use the 17" hard nose bars off an 08s on the 880

The problem is you are looking for one in the small 7 spline drive. The saws that use the small 7 are not designed to run a 8 pin .325. That makes the rim a tough one to get.

Has anyone ever thought of pressing out the hubs of both a 5k & 7k drum and place the 7k hub into the 5k drum?
One could utilize a 7k drum hub from a worn or fried clutch drum.

I looked at the drums today and I think it could be done.

I considered making an adapter to fill the void between the small spline hub & the large spline sprocket, but it would be extremely thin walled.

Wilhelm,

Do you think you can make these? I have struck out with every machine shop.
