That ain't no Joke Roy.
Most don't realize that one of the major contributors to this issue in Michigan is a lack of sunshine. Vitamin D as well as light therapy/using full spectrum lighting should help.
It's best to get exercise and to be outdoors as much as possible as well.
Any time you have a need to run some saws your more than welcome to stop by, that goes for all y'all :).
Hope your doing well today Mitch.
You're right Chipper,

I'm pretty well sorted OCD-wise, it's nothing like what it was, but still lack of sunshine is very depressing. I'm always up very early (4.20 am) to miss the horrendous traffic on my work commute, since where I work/live in England it's terrible. It means that most of the year my morning is always dark. It's so depressing - really brings me down - especially now when I had like months of it already.

Looking forward to Spring!

I suffer from SADs big time too. I am just about seeing a whiff of daylight in the car park at work, but alas all this is hopefully gonna change. You know my game ;)

This is gonna sound crazy coming from me...

But you would not believe the adverse effects some of the foods you consume have on you along with vitamin deficiency ...my eyes were opened big time a few years ago...look into it.

Two other things helped me to start to feel more relaxed and less anxious. Firstly regular aerobic exercise. I started running again. I'm not trying to say that this is for everyone! Swimming, cycling, taking long walks work too. The sustained exercise just pumps natural feel-good hormones around, and helps clear your mind.

The second thing is "learning how to relax properly". That is, stop letting your brain obsess too much (I certainly needed to slow mine down at times). Breathing exercises (a.k.a. "mindful meditation"), reading, painting, sketching or learning a musical instrument, are all ways to distract a mind that tends to worry/ruminate too much. The main thing is not to try to block things out, but rather replace those thoughts with positive stuff. This may all sound a little bit "beatnik", but I can tell you it does work for a lot of people, it's just a case of finding out what suits you best.

Meditation. It's simple. Sit in a comfortable chair, close your eyes and listen to your breath for a couple of minutes. Your mind will wander, but keep bringing it back to your breath. That's it.
After a week of doing this, you will notice the differance.
I get tired of the wheezing lol.
My saws sing, it's much more relaxing for an asthmatic :).

Lots of saws to fix will keep your mind from wandering!

Yup, that sums it up. There's lots of approaches to it, and obviously heaps of stuff on it on the internet.

e.g.

https://www.mindful.org/meditation/mindfulness-getting-started/

And yeah, it works. My blood pressure is a lot lower nowadays. I think it's from the exercise regime and the meditation combined.

I want to bump this back up. I'm not one to talk about my kids much, but my 10 year old has been dealing with anxiety for couple years now. It started with night terrors and now he worries himself until he pukes. I hate for him to be on medication, anyone else's kids have anxiety? Any tips, thoughts? This is really hard on me watching this, thanks guys!

Find out what the root of the problem is and then squash it in front of him. My now 11 year old was having something like this happen a few years ago. After changing schools his nervous tick and reluctance to go to school stopped.

As fun as fishing sounds.....
Anxiety is a mental illness.
It’s no joke. If not diagnosed and treated properly, it can be devastating. Especially in young children.

You know I understand that.......but my point was to get the kids out away from social media, peer pressures, and let them do more kid stuff. When I was a boy, my dad was always drunk......raising hell about something. Us boys would take to the woods, or the fishing holes........or play ball......anything but be hemmed up with that crap.
