So I heard of this Stihl model and figured I'd try to massage it a bit.

@dall, this is your build.

@MustangMike, your jug is cut and your saw is on my bench. I'm still torn over it. I like the look of the 024 Super covers on the saw. If I can mod the jug and air filter just right, I should be able to get it to flow enough. It will run betterer and cooler with the 026 covers and air filter though.

So here's a few 26 jugs being machined. @Mustang Mike, yours is a red lever jug, so you're gonna wing up with slightly more compression than this one.

The timing was advanced .025 of the keyway. A brand new WT194 OEM carb and an OEM metal airfilter was as well. I find these hard to find and pricey filters an absolute must for any performance upgrade on this model. I used the stock 026 boot.

You think I'd learn, I found a nice matching color air filter cover for the saw. Dall had a brighter orange one on it that just didn't look so right.

I made the error of tossing it in the hot tank for 2 minutes. The degreased it wonderfully, but also removed any luster that the plastic had. It hit it with some silicone tire gel.

Don't use a hot ultrasound cleaner bath for plastics. Note to self....

And here's the final product with a 16" 7T picco setup. I coulda pushed it more, but it's not broken in yet. Was nicely 4 stroking at around 15,600 here. An 044 carb and boot adds another 1000 rpm to these, but I find that the idle and throttle response get quirky on them.

i like how the saw turned out the 026 is my favorite firewood saw .i have a buddy who has a bad knee and uses a crutch so i always take the tops and let him have the butt end because it is easier for him to get around . so this saw will be fun to use and play with .

Doc you do beautiful work, I really need to find some time to get my 026 cleaned up and sent to you. Also still looking for that pesky metal filter. Been hitting up all the old timey Stihl dealers in the area and no joy. Bailey's used to sell a nylon mesh replacement, I believe it was an Oregon brand, think that would work here?
