I believe I remember hearing that was his premise.....reading or history channel
He wanted employees to drive/own the car to be a free source of reputable advertising by word of mouth and visually being seen in the car. He also knew that if employees and their family's had the fast cheap transportation to access places of a further distance then walking or a horse/wagon could go like stores, shops, family, and vacation they would have higher out put. He cared but always worked it into boosting increasing productivity.
