It has the original 1/4" sprocket, when I get to it I'll post pictures, in a 400 now.

How do I best hold the clutch to loosen the bolt?

I  think it's possibly the original sprocket (slightly worn).

Pull the plug out and use a piston stop. If you don't have one, some old recoil rope pushed down the spark plug hole will do the trick. Make sure the piston is above all the ports before using this method. You don't want the rope caught in any of the ports.

What!!!??? Why are you clearing out your saws? Are you getting rid of all your saws, or just some of them?

If the 015 still available I'll take.you up on the offer.
Yeah, I'm getting rid of all excess saws... I honestly don't need a bunch. 1 or 2 is good... lol.
I sent Brad a message... all he has to do is cover shipping.

Thank you for the advice. I don't have a piston stop, though did get the clutch spun off and rim sprocket replacement ordered.

Alright man, I tossed it back together and fired it. You'll have to finish/tweak and tune it. It'll be in the mail either tomorrow or Saturday. It has a bogs at WOT... like mentioned before I can't remember if the carb was gone through.
Kill switch needs to be installed etc.

Going to share details, how you got inside it?
That's how to get tiny parts out, push 'em from the inside! (I just eat something that doesn't agree with me, 20 minutes later feels like i dropped 25#)

Didn't have a tapered manifold plug big enough for the top port of the MS400 intake boot (couldn't seal up during vacuum test, and even less so during pressure test) so removed the intake boot and am going to cut a block-off plate tonight and 3mm silicone rubber gasket. Exhaust is sealed with the usual 3mm silicone triangle-wedge held by bolting on the muffler; the decomp. valve is removed and a tapered manifold plug inserted since they can leak when they get carbon fouled.

Is this that 400c you bought out of the trading post here?

Yup. And in excellent condition, and clean. (seller: @jk14 )

With that said, it was a truck saw, so it got bumped occasionally, though less than normal. It also had oil-storing wood chips in fairly inaccessible crevices, enough to prevent any and all sorts of corrosion. And the multi-function lever and chain tensioner had the normal work saw type binding most people are used to.

Given the saw was in such great shape it was a candidate for restoring to "used 3 hours" condition. Most of the bumps are now gone and stuff looks new again. I hope to have a coat of wax on it by this weekend.
;)

A few other projects took priority, it's on the shelf and in line to get some attention. This weekend is looking at the MS400 oiler, needs more squirt for a longer bar.

I used to have an 015 that was my dad's. He got it back in 1975 or 1976 IIRC. We used to go every weekend and cut up brush and small trees for firewood. Some of the best times I had with him.

After he passed I used that saw all the time and had it running good. Then some jerk stole it from my garage about 15 years ago. I've been missing that little saw for a long time.

I'm getting some 015's now so I can start to build a good one or two of them. Every time I fired up that old 015, it brought back memories of my Dad and those wood cutting weekends.

If you ever decide to put it up for sale, I would love to get it.
