Can the 084 run both the HT7A and HT11 carbs interchangeably? I have a 084 that I haven't run in about 4 years. ( I had a heart attack) I want to get the saw up and running, however, I believe the carb might need a rebuild/ replacement. She cranks but no gas gets to the carb. Looking online I see both carbs listed as replacements. Are they interchangeable? Is there an advantage using one over the other?

Thanks for the help!

I can't help. But if @Poleman surfaces. He might be the one that would know.

Take it easy on the ticker. I added a drilled out husky decomp to my 088. Don't know if thats a option for the 84. But if it is........ Thank me later.

Glad to see you survived a heart attack.
Is recovery going well?

You can run either the HT-7 or the HT-11. The HT-11 I believe came on the 088 as an original carb (I think the later versions came with the HT-12). So you have lots of options.

There's some Walbro carbs for the 084/088/MS-880 that also work ok.

If it ain't getting fuel, many times that indicates a massive air leak. With an air leak, there's no impulse to pump fuel. Before you decide that it's a carb issue, pressure test.

BTW....I was wondering where you were @quietfly the bowl you made for us is still in use as a catch all in the middle of our table.

It ain't the age......its the mileage.
Lol then I'm definitely a high mileage special.....I'm 6 weeks out of having a foot of my colon removed. Diverticulitis is a pain in the ass.

I did a compression test and she holds at 130 . Is that acceptable?

I had a colonoscopy not long ago. Luckily, no issues. I hope you recover fully and well.

130 is good.

Do you have a vacuum/pressure tester?

Unfortunately no. Are they expensive to buy / difficult to make?

Yip I have an air compressor

Can you regulate the pressure down to 10psi or so?

If so, block off the intake, and exhaust ports, then hook that 10psi up to the impulse line and pressurize the crankcase. Double check your pressure a few times, and be sure you don't have more than 15psi max. After you hook up the pressure, spray soapy water on the seals, and around the base gasket, etc. That will tell you pretty quickly whether you have any air leaks.

Thanks for explaining, I think I can use my brake bleeder/pressurizer the same way as the air compressor. I'll test and see.

While you're at it, pressure test the carburetor. The nylon elbow where you hook up the fuel line may have a crack in it. I've seen it on several of them.
