recently placed an order for a brushdestructor blade for my strimmer after seeing the videos online a couple of years back. I'd always wanted one and although it cost me around £150 I bit the bullet.

First thoughts: holy *s-wordballs this thing is terrifying! It sounds like a jet engine at full chat on my fs410c, but my oh my does it eat some bush! In the first 2 hours I shredded around an acre of horrendously thick brambles, small trees and thick woody weeds in my back garden down to mush, and I also cut down and shredded a 4" thick rhododendron with it.

All in all, pretty damn impressed. I have no affiliation whatsoever to this product, however as an engineer I have to say the engineering that's gone into this is simply brilliant!

Have any of you chaps ever used one of these or one of the predecessors?

Ya I got one a few years ago and its a heavy nasty angry viscious cutting contraption:). I bought a few sets of spare blades too which are pretty pricey! I read if you cant get blades for them as its a one man band company you could use some others blades off something made by bosch or makita.....cant remember now. Just keep it away from metal fence poles and big rocks and they should last ok. They need re-shapening which is fun for the first time you do it....not.

Yeah I can't say I'm looking forward to the sharpening! Any tips?

There used to be a real horror show looking thing like that sold over here with blades that looked like strips of chainsaw chain. I'm sure the manufacturer got sued into a black hole. I remember seeing ads for it when I was a kid in the 80's.

I've seen those myself, the manufacturer of this actually warns against those types of flails as I believe there have been a couple of fatalities

It was like 4 years ago when I last used/sharpened mine but you sharpen one side of the serrated edge not bothonce there should be instructions included with sharpening details. They are heavy blades that take a bit of power to spin but once spinning fast they don't slow down. I ran mine on a Solo 42cc clearing saw, I think you want 40-50cc's with a thick solid shaft for the destructor setup.

I reserve mine for certain jobs like woody viney brush. Due to blade cost they are not a cheap setup to use commercially. But I bought a few sets of spare blades when I got it. I spend well over $100 from memory. I mainly use the large arbour triangle ninja star type blade as they are fairly cheap and can be sharpened many times but its good to have a few blade options to tackle different tasks.
