You’re not the first person to ask me that 🤣

In all seriousness, I guess you could say I’m a jack of all trades, and master of none. I’ve always enjoyed learning more - doing whatever I feel I am capable of. I’ve always followed what interests me and ran with it until another opportunity opened up.

Honestly, it bothers me when I look back at all the jobs and “careers” I’ve had - I never wanted to be “that guy”. I always figured you go to school, get a career, and stay there until you retire. But I have no regrets - I have gained a lot of knowledge and experience from a lot of places and I use those skills daily. And every move I’ve made has been in a positive direction to improve myself.
The journey is part of life. The destination is more important than how you get there.
Horse train boat or car when we get there we’re all in the same place.
Keep up the good work, nothing better than helping others.

How’s this dry spring treating you all? We were called for mutual aid today for a grass fire in an old auto salvage yard, which spread to the nearby woods and started climbing uphill.. while battling that, my brother who was 2 ridges over driving to a new logging site, drove up on a wildfire that was spreading. He is also a firefighter and called it in, then stomped out what he could. The responding dept was also mutual aid on the same fire I was at, so they hurried back to their own fire. Luckily 2 dozers were on scene and were able to cut a line in above the fire on the hill to stop it. It could have gotten ugly if we didn’t have them.

Only the third Fire of the season. Red flag warning today. Some clown was lighting fires along the Rio Grande.
So far it’s been a slow year. Which is a good thing.

The Solo‘s more than likely have more run time during training than at actual incidents!
I'd rather keep it that way too. Something about crawling up on the roof of a burning building to cut a hole, just doesn't seem right.

I realize you can do a lot more that just cutting a hole in a roof.

Here’s a picture of one of my proudest achievements in the fire service… 900 GPM through a 3” hose. Pumped by guys I taught.

I love it. I started doing this to spend time with my dad and I got hooked on, well, adrenaline.

I’ve been a Sergeant for a while now. I’m just fine with that, other than I don’t get to see much fire from the pump panel. Currently have IFSAC I/II and some other NWCG, ICS and state certifications.

What are you using for vent saws? 1 of 2 Solo “Twins” on the local FD.

Our quint runs an MS 460 rescue saw & the engines don’t carry vent saws.

Before that, and on the engines we ran/run the regular saws we have (044s/MS 440s) with 20” bars and RM chain or the rotary saw. We’d basically chuck the chain after cutting a roof.

Hell… Our engines don’t carry much for “truck” tools except a PPV fan, irons and roof hooks. With that said, I haven’t met a door I couldn’t get in with a Pro Bar, 8 lb axe, my aluminum chock and a roof hook for added leverage. Forcible entry is a brutal art, but it’s something wort getting good at doing.

18 years this Nov on the same department. Asst chief now. Volunteer with 45 members and 30 sq mi of coverage.
We run a 461 on one engine
A johnsred 670 cutters edge on the second
And a Stihl 311, 251, and a small echo for trail clearing for lost hikers.

The solo vent saws were popular a while back, one of the first to make a dedicated vent saw. I ended up with two 690’s and a 670 by fire departments retiring them. Hard to find parts, but there out there if you look.

We've had very few fires this year. A couple lightning strikes and a Swather fire. A few in the ditch as well.

Harvest has just started up and with the last week's of heat and no moisture we are a tinder box.

I'm just a local fire fighter.

We just had a small hay fire today on some of our hay ground. I didn't get to help fight it since I was an hour away working. I didn't get big and was stopped fairly quickly.

A disc bine set it off.

The Town I was working in had a couple of fire calls today. The one group was still out fighting the one fire when I left work. They had been at it for 5 hours at that point. They were pulling other fire departments in to help.
