Looked at the label under seat was manufactured by Husqvarna.

I've been at battle with an old Briggs 5 HP on a roto tiller that came over on the Mayflower .That old duffer had sat for a long while ,bad condenser .Simple enough ,solid state coil . Still only a putt putt .aha blocked filter in the tank filter .Chainsaw filter on the piece of fuel line .Putt putt putt ,blah .Bad diaphragm on the fuel pump diaphragm ,permanently puckered .$3.86 AM be here mid week .Some fixes just take longer to figure out .

When speaking of briggs, or any other brand that was a US manufacturer, if you think they are all still made in Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, ect... You are living in the last century. It has been a global manufacturing market. Most of the non-pro engines have not been made here since the beginning of this century.

If you really dig deep enough many of assumed US brands are not made state side .I once ordered a set of Caterpillar head gasket kits used for a rebuild from Holt-Rafakus Cat of Toledo Ohio ,now Ohio Cat . .Holt BTW was the grand son of Ben Holt the founder of Cat . Damned parts cost me a fortune and took a month to get them --made in Japan .I could go on forever about the domestic content of just about everything made we only assume to be domestic
As far as the old 1943 D4 2t1 series Caterpillar ,that's story for another time .To cut to that chase I've restored more than just chainsaws in my life time and let it go at that .:)

Briggs bankruptcy - financial black magic- drive past several briggs buildings ( distribution centers I believe) there hasn't been so much as a blip as far as anything being shutdown.

If that is keeping people working then I'm for it. I have to say, I have had good service out of all my late model Briggs engines and hope they keep on.

I've never had a Briggs fail except one that had the coil stay on full advance making it nearly impossible to roll over . I did have to install rings on a high hour 8 HP mower once .The antique on a walk behind garden tractor as old as myself still starts and runs .Puffs a little smoke for a tad bit after a cold start is all . Now I've changed electric starters and the drive gears but that's not the engine it's self .WTH a drive gear is less than 5 bucks anyway .What a dealer would get I have no idea . More I suppose if it says Briggs and Stratton on the box .
