Briggs and Stratton 675 engine help

I got this from a buddy that had it on his splitter and he asked me to see if I can fix it so he'd have a spare .
He said it wouldn't start and oils pouring out of the exhaust/muffler .
I did a quick compression test and I'm only getting 50psi which from the little ive read is way to low .
I'm thinking at the least maybe a bad ring ?
Any other ideas what it could be and how to check it out quick without completely tearing it apart ?

I think I'd pull the head and have a good look at it from the top, first. Might help clue you in to what's going on.

Put air in the cylinder with it at tdc and see where it is leaking by could be a stuck valve have seen plenty of valve seats fall out

briggs carb with plastic internals are prone to float failure.
they will leak fuel to cylinder and leak to bottom end and start pouring fuel oil mix from every hole possible

Are you saying a pressure test similar to a saw ?

I've read about the carb problem...I will rebuild it for sure if the motor itself checks out with minimal repair .

Yes do a leak down test put shop air directly into the cylinder at tdc if air leaks out the intake then intake valve leaking, if it leaks out exhaust then exhaust valve is leaking, and if it leaks out dipstick rings or piston or bore is messed up could save you a lot of trouble. Some of those Briggs had a weird aluminum coated cylinder that i am not a fan of but I have seen a couple valve seats fall out

I copy what your saying now...what psi would you recommend?

50 to 100 should be fine I usually just do whatever is in my compressor
