So I have a couple of 242's I'm building up and both need pistons. Husky doesn't sell one any longer and the offering from Meteor is actually for the 42, not the 242 (242 needs the windowed piston). I have used Golf and VEC and was not impressed with either. What recommendations do you guys have?

I dont know Barry I asked Meteor about 242 and got no answer, custom service isnt their good side.
Luckily I can still buy oem piston, wouldnt surprise me if they are made in Brazil.

Is it possible to rebuild one 42 piston to be windowed?.

As it would happen I have done a rebuild on a 242 xp with a Meteor and a Golf piston as a direct back to back test.
The Meteor isn't fully windowed as you say but has not got a full skirt so will work …as well as a fully windowed?? …Hummmm.. Close. The saw was good but I felt had a little less torque (Such as you get from a 242) . I ended up using a Golf piston as it looked the same as the fully widowed OEM and the tolerance and finnish were good. I did use a "Caber " ring instead of the Golf one as I don't know what there like. Meteor come with "Caber" as standard..Nice.
Hope that is of use to you.

it depend on the price he want, new oem 242 jug is very attractive.
I've only seen one on ebay last 14 months, guess who was the auction winner :D

I've used the Mako 242 piston a couple times since the OEM one went on the NLA list. It is fully windowed. Only one available from my suppliers, and I really don't know of any other options. I suppose sticking an OEM ring on it might make sense. I have 2 more 242's that I'm resurrecting and I'm going run one a good deal and monitor it as I get some time on it.

Decent but not OEM quality. Hey, it says "High Quality" right on the box, so it's gotta be, right? ;)

242 parts is probleby easier to find in Europe then US, but I think there is lots of NLA stuff to be found, it just take lots of work, thats how I got a few NLA 242 parts, I called around.
I would be surprised if there aint one 242 oem piston in US......

Sadly Meteor doesnt know how one 242 piston look like
