Went to delete a base gasket on a 2253. Current squish is .034 and original gasket is .030. A straight delete won't do. I found heavy card stock that is .016 and it has a glossy side. (parts box) Is this an appropriate material with a little anaerobic slobber on it?

And no, I'm not willing to run it at .004 and report back with the results.

The anaerobics don't like plastic so it would probably be motoseal just to be on the safe side because of the glossy surface.

Back in the day when I had to use card stock for gaskets we would coat them with Indian Head shellac to seal the gasket up, not sure if anyone still does this. I have since bought rolls of real gasket material from a local engine rebuild shop and it does not require sealing before use in gasoline laden environments.

I have also used Indian head sealer with good results on iffy diy gaskets. Always had good results. I'm no saw builder, but I would either get gasket material or make a metal one.

Didn't want to have to track down the correct thickness, then buy a whole roll when I only need a few inches square. I'm happy to find the exact size I need on the shelf. I know this stuff is ok for lots of situations but never used it to put a saw jug on.

You can always justify another saw.

I'd put a thin coat of sealer on both sides of any homemade gasket. Better to do it right the first time and avoid doing it again.

Going dry with that thickness of paper will be ok. Motoseal is never a bad choice for added assurance.

I've used paper plates, manilla envelopes, file folders, cereal boxes, regular paper, Chinese food boxes, tissue packing paper which is .001", and one thing that ended up really pissing my ol lady off was cutting a piece off the last page of the calendar.

Yup, my wife remembers when she was little, watching her dad make gaskets out of paper store bags to rebuild the engines in his snowmachines. Just add a think layer of grease and assemble.

Careful. I'm easily confused. Is that "thin" or "thick"

I'm also easily distracted
