I have a new Efco MT8200. I had never seen one before down here. Does anyone use them? How do they compare?
I don't know anything about them.

Surprisingly well made. I've had two come through here (52cc and 62cc). they are the easiest starting cold saws I've ever handled. Affordably priced, too.

Efco kinda mucked around with their dealer network in the US a few years ago and are still digging out of that hole.

Our Oregon distributer is also Efco distributer. I ordered one just to check it out. It's about half the price on Husky or Stihl. Do they run just as good?
It's a tough sell here because nobody's hear of them.

Boss one thing that might be reassuring is that Italians are adequate machinists to say the least. Meteor p&c have been a hit for a long time. And since you mentioned Husky, one would be surprised methinks to discover the inbreeding which has existed at times. See Cagiva....

(Maserati does 185)

OK well overlap would be a better representation. Inbreeding is what happens hear.

My friend worked at a shop that sold efco he said the small and midrange saws were excellent 152 and 156 etc. And the trimmers and brushcutters were good but they never carried the largest saws then they had trouble with the company honoring warrantys and they dropped the line.

We have a somewhat local dealer for Efco. He only carried the 152 and 156 models along with the brush cutter line. Saws felt really solid and put together well, a little heavy if I recall compared to other similar displacement saws. He said he can't give the saws away, everybody wants a husqvarna rancher because of the name. He has had good success with the brushcutters.

I do not put them down at all, but if I was in the OPE business, I wouldn't touch that particular brand as a dealer with a 100' pole. The hassle Chainsawr went through would shy me away. It may be better now, but why take the chance? A good reputation is hard to get back once it is gone...

I have an Olympyk 980, probably a predecessor to your 8200. Efco made these, mine even has an Efco tag on it. The saw is solid, runs well, but has poor air filtration ( my opinion), hopefully that has changed. I do have to admit than mine has been ported and wears a 36" bar with skip, and wears it well at that.

Olympyk, efco, and oleomac have all been names of this Italian saw product. I go to run the 980 of Shea's at a gtg and it is a nice runner.
