Thank you guys! I’m using a 7/32 file for this saw, isn’t that the correct one? Now that you mention it I think I do push back too hard, and I’m getting that handy husky roller guide!
Im no pro but 7/32 is the filen I use for 3/8 chain. I say keep going with the freehand fileing and you will get on to it. Make sure you have a good sharp file. Dont worry about counting strokes and take many lite stroke rather then a few hard aggressive strokes. Keep the gullet clean out.
When i do my rakers i use the guage, then i will take a couple extra half strokes to drop it just below the guage. I find it better for bucking firewood and you can also go a couple filings with out touching rakers usually.

Thanks Merc_man, what is a larger file than a 7/32? Valuable info I’ll put it To use!
Randy What should the link go to? I clicked it and it took me to the eBay homepage

Awesome chart I’ll print it! Thanks guys I’ve got a husky roller guide on the way! Are there certain chains the roller guide does not work on?

That’s ok I took back the 25” safety chain they sent with this saw and had them give me an RS. I can’t believe I missed them giving me a safety chain, and I can’t believe that’s what they sent in the first place!
