So, I'm thinking my shoulder may be giving out as it is giving me pain.

Anybody been though surgery or PT for this?

If it's bursitis a cortisone injection took care of mine. Do you get pain moving arm forward and back, or lifting it out to your side? Get it looked at by and orthopedic surgeon. Internet guessing is not a good idea.

Had a bone spur that detached and floated around and tore up the bursa.
Pain and reduced motions came and went. Cortisone injection barely made a difference and didn't last.
After going from one specialist to another, I was referred to a specialist sports guy that only worked on shoulders.
He looked at the previous imaging while I was working with his PT guy first time, hadn't seen him yet and he couldn't believe that nobody else has seen what was on even the earliest imaging.

But I rode ATVs and motocycles and gather wood and regular stuff,,,and its fine. i would do it again.
Good luck.

Go to doctor and get a mri. I tore my front rotator cuff and inner biceps tendion completely off and partially torn my pectoral in a work injury in 2016. All rotator cuff injuries are so different! I was in a immobilized sling for months after surgery other than physical therapy and showers. Some people are fine with rest and physical therapy. Get it checked out, more than likely it isn't that bad. I couldn't move my arm and was screaming in pain when they took me to the ER.

Thanks guys! I plan on going to the doc in the next week. I just hope it's nothing bad - I don't want to be laid up for months waiting for it to heal.

The pain is on the top of the shoulder and extends down the upper back of the arm, BUT only when I'm pressing my arm in.

As a description, If I am sitting at my desk and I place my right arm elbow against my side, and have my forearm at 90 degrees to the upper arm - and I attempt to push my desk drawer to the left, I have a sharp pain on the top of my shoulder and down the upper back part of my upper arm.

Otherwise, all is fine. Upward movement is good, side to side is good. Just that one motion.

I haven't gotten to the cuff surgery...yet.
But just a heads up to help anyone with surviving post surgery.

Before surgery, 3~4 weeks at least.
Take note of everything that you do right handed and get some practice with your left hand.
Wear a mitten for couple of days if needed to help ya notice things.
Getting dressed, prepping~eating a bit of food, opening drinks, etc.
Working lefty with toilet paper is pretty danged helpful to learn.

Any spills or cleanup with your off hand and only one hand, gets pretty frustrating.
So try to be prepared mentally. As It can get on your nerves....
Some years ago, I had carpal tunnel release on rt hand and thankfully someone got after me to learn some left handed skills ahead of surgery date.

bone spur and shoulder socket issue put me back under the knife later on.
Same issues with getting the left hand practice again.

After a few injections and therapy, DR has mentioned the cuff repair may be in my future.

Well wishes Mack 880!

Take heed of the "Before Surgery" advise!!! I had a right shoulder joint replacement with a titainum ball and nylon socket and started long before to cultivate my left hand abilities. There are so many things we do and take for granted (like wiping) that when your lose use of one side or the other it's very dificult to learn to change on the fly. Practice these chores daily......I started by learning how to operate a mouse reasonably well then moved on to other stuff. Don't overlook eating either.....I missed this one and took a couple forks to the nose before figuring that out!

I've had right shoulder issues twice. The 1st time was resolved with a month & a half of PT. The 2nd time was the result of a torn rotator cuff & biceps tendon caused by trying to start a chainsaw without using the decomp (saw was ported with compression raised to 205 & had been unused for 6 mos.). I was given the option of surgery or try PT. I opted for PT. After 2 mos. & no noticeable improvement, I thought surgery was necessary, but decided to give it 1 more month. It started to respond, & I continued PT. It took 6 mos. of PT before it was OK & pain free. I still do my exercises 6 days per week, & I'm pain free & 95% capable of doing whatever is needed with it.

There is lots of great advice already posted. Definitely start with seeing an Orthopedic Dr. for a diagnosis. That will help you determine what is specifically wrong & what your best options may be.

First thing is to get an MRI and confirm exactly what is wrong.
I had a SLAP tear, left and right side of the biceps tendon and a partially biceps tendon reattachment. Very glad I had the surgery done, but it wish I had caught it sooner and had PRP done first. Platelet Replacement Therapy, basically they draw blood, separate the platelets and inject them back into the damaged area. It’s incredible how well it works and how many friends I have seen healed quickly and better than ever.
