Stihl make a std wheel for there usg grinder. I have a metal guide with all the shapes and was thinking of getting wheel as it would be cheaper then the files in the long run 🤔

Maybe as it’s still new the demand is low atm for a hexa cbn wheel ? Due to initial costs 🤷‍♂️, where as the std hexa wheel may wear out but it’s outlay is a lot less.

I guess if your really wanting a cbn hexa wheel, you’d have to find a China company and give them the profile and all the other dimensions.

Good luck in your quest, 😉👍

Btw I will follow this thread 👍

I believe that there will be no such changes for two reasons: 1, the wheel will change its profile after x chains due to natural wear, and 2, the thinner the edge of the blade, the faster it wears out and the more difficult it is to restore it after it has been heavily worn.

Got the new prototype wheel and played with it a bit. I’m able to get a good match on the one Hexa chain I have but it isn’t new and has been filed by the previous owner. I also tried grinding one of Duke’s chains…basically the same type. Same results, so far. I’m still playing with settings on my USG grinder. May have to go buy a new one to get dialed in just right :p
I can’t find any info from Stihl on specific settings for this RH chain. Anyone have anything?

Can't find any, even on Stihl's site.
YT has vids with ceramic wheels ground for 1 side.
This is what I have.
I need to get some brand new chains so I have a base reference.

This wheel seems to work fine on the various Hexa style chains. There is a bit of a trick to it but with the Stihl grinder it is easy to get the parameters set. I've done a couple chains...Stihl, Dukes and 1 Husqvarna.

Today I played with trying to match angles on a Sq ground chain. Got pretty damn close, imo.
A finer grit wheel will be a lot better and Darrius had suggested that in the beginning.

A few pics...
