I like the Hornady ammo.
I know your not looking for retail though.

I like Hornady components. Can't afford not to reload for this thing. Plus my son has a Henry in 45-70 .

Woah, very nice! I had a '74 model just like it. I still have my brass, bullets, and dies, however I can certainly spare some. Let me dig thru the accumulation and see what turns up. Biggest thing I didn't like about mine was I never could get my homebrew bullets to shoot as good as commercial slugs. I think a fairly hard alloy would have done it, but it's kind of a pain to keep a special lead supply for just one gun. Mine had micro groove, as did nearly all of them in that era. Current 1895's have Ballard type rifling, which is just what you need for lead. Eventually I'm gonna git one of these:

I have a TC Contender in 45-70. Unported 14" barrel. 52gr 3031 with a 405gr hard cast. I love punishment. I enjoy the i wanna be Dirty Harry types at the range with their sissy 44mag pea shooters.

We had a nice Fathers Day. Made some empty casings. Mine is a '72 OB serial prefix. Ballard rifling.

Would love to get into one of those thumpers at some point. There's something about a big chunk of lead flying like a freight train that just feels right. :pesas:

Fired eight rounds of Hornady 325g. The bruise on my shoulder is coming in nicely. But it is dead on at 50 yards.

I bought some boxes of 45-70. They don’t give them away.

Son caught a closeout someone had on Hornady 325g Leverevolutions. So he bought them out. Gifted me a box for Fathers day.

That's why I like .223/5.56 and .300AAC. There's always free brass to be found. Helps with the cost of reloading. I need to start molding and powdering some lead pills....will make it even cheaper.

Commercial .223 brass, yes. Milsurp stuff with crimped in primers, more hassle than its worth. Russky Tula steel case ammo shoots really well in my rifles and is surprisingly clean. Lately i've been pulling the bullets and replacing with Hornady or Sierra soft points. Disposable ammo with good bullets!
