So just the other day BRP announced that they are halting production of Evinrude outboard. Major surprise and super suckage. Probably will be career changing for many of us in the industry.

And now today this crap shows up........

Purolator my go to made in the usa affordable oil filter has sold out

The filter on the right is a USA made and the left a new batch china made. The USA made has a better core better orings and overall better construction. Only thing about the china filter that is better. Is it has more pleats........ But......... They aren't as deep and the material seems inferior.

This chit is getting old. I'm sending this junk back. Guess I'm going to have to see if Wix or Hastings are still made stateside.

I’m tired of the Chinese crap too. I did some reading on Wix. We use close to 6 figures worth of Wix filters a year between all the rigs, trucks, support machines and vehicles. The vast majority of their plants are in the US. They have some in Europe, one in Venezuela and one in China....not sure how they determine what goes where. We have one filter on the IMT’s I cut open every service to check for metal as it will give us a heads up if we have internal issues in the rotary drive. So far it’s always been the same quality materials. I’ll sure watch closer.

We run quite a bit of Cat machinery and use all Cat filters and oil. Their hydraulic return filters come from the Philippines, have as long as I’ve been working on yellow iron. Hard to say where their other stuff is made and by whom. Quality has never been an issue thus far.

The main issue is the China crap spills over into everything and more often than not you don’t know until it’s in your hands. I sure hope we get away from it!

Sorry for the rant lol.

They say they are going to provide parts support. But we don't know anything for sure yet.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it's going to evolve into a restructuring of the company and they come back. But..... All bets are off.

Rude2 is over. You can blame the tree huggers and lobbyist for that. Not political... statement of fact.

Saturn!?!
Come on.... I had faith in ya Stevie

Pff... This thing is awesome. Snagged it from the scrap yard for $700 before the title was branded. Had 87,000 on it and needed a timing set and a windshield. Have a friend that hooked me up with a new windshield for $100. And the timing set and tensioner kit was less than $100 from the guys at the gm shop. I have 238,xxx on it now and it sees the 6k redline quite regularly . It's gutless but hey it's a 5 speed so it gets beat like a redheaded stepchild. Gets 35-38 mpg how I drive. Can get 45 or better if you try. My wife only gets 30 when she drives it. But I think she has some ties to the Andretti family or something. Chit.... I almost forgot it has a hitch on it too!

Yep best work car I've had. Beats pushing a old ford around ;):risas3:

FWIW: The filter on the right has what looks like a Viton ‘O’ ring. One on the left, neoprene. [emoji848]

Viton has a much wider temperature and chemical resistance range. [emoji106]

Damn Steve, major suckage.

Evinrude has been in my blood all my life. We ran a 1957 7.5 and 1964 9.9 on out Barnikan Sneakbox duck boats until the 80’s. We even had a Silver “Zepher” V4 Evinrude that dad told me was from the 19’s or 20’s. Had a Bipeller, no neutral or gears, the engine was able to be rotated 360* for use and was apparently quite strong-we lost that one in hurricane Sandy. It had no built in starter, just a round exposed flywheel protrusion with two notches to wind a rope around and pull.

Sad day. Good ole Mr. Evinrude, who I was told designed the first outboard to power a boat to see his wife, must be turning in his grave. They were always the pinnacle of quality back in the day.
