Alternative fixes for chain brake stalling engine?

The chain brake is stalling the engine, with it off the chain does not spin and the saw idles normally. The clutch, drum, and needle bearing are new. It looks like the crank shaft is worn enough to let the drum twist/angle with the brake applied.

Most of the searches I've found say to replace the crank/buy a new saw. Are there alternative fixes I have not found such as aligning the brake spring to stop the drum from twisting, shimming the needle bearing, etc? Looking at all my options before anything else.

Sounds like you might be missing a part like the clutch washer or perhaps you may just need a new clutch drum and bearing.
Crankshafts are pretty tough. The clutch drum and bearing are what typically wear out but there are always exceptions

The clutch, drum, and needle bearing are new. The clutch washer is still on behind the clutch, and the drum has the washer under the C-clip. I can see some wear on the crank shaft, so that's why I'm asking for alternative fixes.

I know some of the ms261 had a problem with the cranks wearing where the clutch drum bearing rides. I haven’t heard of it on a ms241 but I suppose it could happen.

Have you removed the brake band to clean behind it? Sawdust can pile up and prevent it from fully opening.

The saw works with the brake off. It doesn't have a problem disengaging the brake. Only when the brake is purposefully engaged does it stall.

I think they mean the saw" dies " when the brake is applied? Stalling might be the same as in vehicle reference .
In that case I would think its an idle adjustment problem and its being "over diagnosed ".

Not sure I'm understanding the jokes...

Yes I mean the engine dies and stops running when the brake is on. Its also impossible to start with the brake on and you can feel the drag pulling it over. I doubt this is an idle issue, it's an mtronic carb.

It's a problem Stihl had with the case hardening on the crankshaft, here in the UK it was a major problem!
Not much you can do, I've seen phosphor bronze bushing made for the clutch drum but nothing has resulted in a cure, I have changed lots of cranks!!!

Are all the stihl crankshafts the same? I thought some had different stroke lengths. If they are the same I might go this route and try a new crank "made" for a different saw.

It's definitely a worn crankshaft. Here are two of the same model saws. One is definitely worn, the other not so much.
The internet is at your fingertips Sir. Plenty of information about these saws in here.

oooh that crank is ugly. Should have posted that first and saved a lot of guess work. Yikes
I would have, just busy and didn't have time to take the side off until today.
