Apologies for the derail

I agree, port the 50 series

It’s a very capable saw stock, and ported really wakes it up

Yep. And given the 7900 can also be a 6400 from the factory, there's your 60 mentally ticked off, and since it's gonna be ported it's into 80cc class...

That 5105 Dolmar is a good lookin' saw. Wanted one a few years back after getting the 552 to compare. Sorry now I didn't do it.

We appear to share similar taste in living on islands, saw porters, and yet to be revealed german not-stihl chainsaws mate.
Kapai ehoa.

In the interests of full disclosure

It’s my trail clearing saw

To err is human?

Mines a hedge trimmer...

Honestly mine has been a good saw

If it weren’t for a Squeal dealer refusing to sell me some chains years ago because I didn’t have the saw with me I might have gone a different route

That and no way to buy parts online

You spelt "over charging on a pre-quoted job" wrong.
Otherwise, carbon copy.

Other than sending saws to MMWS I have never (knock on wood) ever taken a saw in for work

I never even took my Stihl back to the dealer for it’s “free” checkup after X tanks

They couldn’t get it running when I bought it, I ended up showing them

Didn’t inspire confidence

Granted it was a bicycle/saw/garden shop but still, it was one of their precious “professional” dealers

I think that hypocrisy has always kind of galled me

YMMV

As for porting my little 5105/5000. Not sure how much it actually gains but I already cut the cat out of the muffler.

Cat's are bad news heat-wise, I had a trimmer come in where the cat-equipped muffler had melted the plastic lower clamshell. I'm sure the saw will be much happier without it.

after some research that was the main reason I wanted it out is everyone was talking about how much heat they built up. I figured any power gain after that was just a bonus. For me I like any guy loves power but hopefully reliability and longer life is more important to me.

I gutted my PS-6400 within a few weeks of getting it

I couldn't believe the heat that thing put out as well as the heat it retained

Plus, the weight savings was incredible

I remember weighing all the stuff I tossed and I think it was over half a pound

When Randy got ahold of it he added the second exhaust port

I’m kinda in the same boat. I have a 562 and a 135. Thinking about adding another saw. Can’t decide if I want to go 550 Mk. 2 (so my small saw is more capable) or add a 572 so I have more capability on the top end. Decisions, decisions…
