Because I pulled the strato valve off the carb, I'll install the carb next.
Fish the throttle cable through.


The end round ball is there for you to grab it.
The "barrel" is what actually connects to the carb.


Hook that bish up


Then pull the trigger a few times while making the required schwomp schwomp noise to verify the throttle actually works before going further.

And because I forgot to line that linkage up...
I'll take the carb back off....

Only need to pull the carb out slightly to line up.

And in goes the control lever.





I don't have a correct harness for the coil, so, some small bullet connectors and shrink tube will make my connections.

Filter mount/spitback plate bolts on with filter base.


Air duct from flywheel to carb housing attaches with 2 bolts.


Recoil can then go on, along with the top cover.

Looks good ! I going to be bucking up this scrap pile next weekend . All the logs will be dragged out of the pile . If you want to get some time on the saw let me know . It's probably 20 minutes from your house .

I suppose it's time for an update.

I put about 10 tanks of fuel through it and it was running great. Until it didn't.
The big end rod bearing decided to evacuate the crankshaft at high speed mid cut.
The piston took the brunt on it and jammed a piece of the cage into 1 of the upper transfers.

So... I after time obtained a case half to replace the busted one, a used crank and a piston.
Steve was able to salvage the jug with a bit of grinding and whatnot.

It got reassembled and was back in action.

It then developed an issue where it would sometimes stall when it came out of the cut and you'd let go of the throttle, it would drop rpm, but stall rather than idle. It would restart fine.

So, after talking with Steve, the carb got a new kit (Walbro K20-HD) for the Mtronic carb, and a fuel filter.
It was also suggested that I try opening the throttle plate just a bit more with the base idle screw.
I gave it probably 1/16 of a turn to start.
And, problem solved.
It's back to running great.

And a super custom chip deflector I cut out of a chunk of rubber and riveted into the busted aśs clutch cover.

It's been a back and forth battle with it but I think it's at a point now I've got the bugs worked out of this thing. It doesn't appear it's ever lived and easy life and has seen its share of abuse and neglect.
It should be a good workhorse for years to come now.
In hindsight starting with a less thrashed version from the get go would have greatly simplified things. But who does that?

In hindsight starting with a less thrashed version from the get go would have greatly simplified things. But who does that?

I built an 044 once because I was given a broken fuel tank. I literally started from less than nothing.
