I feel that I must comment on these Pics in post #104. The operator running this saw did not care whether he burned it out or not. He noticed the smoke as the clutch assembly burned up and probably said, "Who cares? Not my saw. Boss says I gotta get the job done."

So, here we go...


The NSK bearing I'm using was a shielded bearing. Popped those out.

Bolt the oil pump back in because as we all know, Stihl uses it to set the bearing depth.



And because the seal goes into the pto bearing, make sure to install it in the proper orientation.


Liberal dose of heat to the case, bearing goes in. A minute or 2 for the heat to be absorbed into the bearing and the crank pretty much drops right in.

Some heat on the other case half.
And the bearing drops in.


Before this I placed the case gasket with a thin smear of anaerobic sealer on each side to help hold it...

And then after a minute or 2 of heat soak on that side, the cases went right together.


After tightening up the case bolts, I gave it a couple light taps with a rubber hammer on each end of the crank to center and free it up.
Spins like a champ.
Now, let it cool before seal install.

New oil cap to replace the leaking one.


Flywheel side seal is pretty straight forward due to taper.


Don't forget to trim the gaskets.

On the pto side, some struggle due to the shoulder. It's never been an issue for me to work the seal around it, but here's a solution for those not comfortable doing so.

This is a piece of thin plastic, was actually part of the packaging for welding helmet lenses.

Sharpie lines so it would show up in pics..
Roll it into a tapered cone, tight to the base of the crank.

I usually smear some oil on it just because


And the seal slides right on.


Finish tapping the seal into place.

Don't forget this seal unless you want the saw to oil your boot on start-up.


Oil line can go back in


Snap ring for oil pump drive to sit against.


And oil pump back in place.

I put a bar and chain on the old 610 and did a few cuts. Man those things are slow!

I still like my old Mac 610 TimberBear, and it sill runs. Mine was never slow, however. Your chain must be a bit dull.

Nope. Not dull at all.
It's just been a while since I've used one and compared to a ported 357 or my Mofo 036, it's slow.
