I just picked up a 36" bar for my 661c. I have a few tress that are down that I'll need to tackle this fall. I've always ran a 28" bar. I checked the other day, and the oiler is turned all the way up. Do I need to change to a high output oiler to run my 36"? I remember there was a high output oiler for the 660, but I don't know if things are the same with the new version or not.

The only oiler upgrade I know to do is drive in the pin/stop. This allows u to turn the adjustment past the stop to the maximum setting.
that is in the owners manual and approved by stihl and won't hurt the saw from functioning
It was done on my ported 661 and I need to do it on my stock one

Yep after reading the manual I did it to mine and left it there. The 661 is stingy with oil in my opinion.

I'm not sure if I can find my manual anymore. Anyone have a PDF or pics of what to do, to do this mod?

When your oiler is maxed from the factory, it stops on a pin. Push the pin in and advance your adjustment beyond where the pin stopped.

Pretty simple Grimmy

All you need to do is knock in the pin, then you can turn screw to max output.

I will check it out. After you knock out the pin, how many more turns do you get?

*edit* I just looked at the thread referenced in the previous post, I see now.

Any tips on how to pull the pin out? Maybe I'll just punch it in if I don't have the right stuff to pull it.

The pin goes in.. a punch works fine just don't get to heavy handed. You don't get much past the old stopping point maybe quarter turn if I remember right.

I agree it is stingy with oil. Now I'm going to have to do it ours.

In the first pic, the pin u see at the one o'clock position over the adjustment screw acts as a stop. I lightly tapped it in with a punch. It's doesn't take much. In the second pic you can see that the adjustment screw will now roatate past the pin. This is at max oil output. IMG_1188.JPGIMG_1189.JPG

Finally got around to doing this last night, and worked great. Wasn't the easiest to see, but the proper size punch and about 5-6 taps with a hammer and it was in enough to get some more adjustment out of the oiler. I didn't fire it up and test it, as I was changing bars for some cutting I'm hoping to do today. If it stays cools like it is now, I would suspect next month I'll be venturing down in the timber, and giving the 36" bar a good testing.

Thanks again for all those that helped and offered suggestions. You guys rock! :borra2:
