I take your point about the 550 being so light and slim ," so why would they bother to go with 40 something cc rather than 50cc if it can be made that small " ? Would have been the question that probably came into the figuring and the decision process
I think they could have gone even further to get a real pocket rocket , but then i do like small saws that punch above there weight . You put a 242/42 along side a 550 and it sill looks small compared. Make something so unique that everyone wants it ….build in the X factor, its done with many other things !
Iv never even given the 339 a look as iv always seen it as a top handled saw with a long back handle !! I don't get the idea ether along with Stihl's version of the 200t that has the same set up. o_O This leads me to the conclusion that …I would like a Ms 241 as well as the 550…not as a "which one is best kinda deal though "
Before you say Mr S troll :D:)

We'll both, I probably use the 241 more, a lot out of the bucket truck. The 55dl stihl bar I run on the 241 is short for a 16, I run a 72dl .325 on the 550 so it's a bit longer. The 241 with 55dl is perfect as well as the 550 with 72dl .325

55 is a really silly dl count though, as are all "odd" dl counts (spillover from another forum)...:D

Husky hasnt thought much about saws under 50cc for a long time now, and I dont think they will change either, it's really a shame.
While they did not wanted to develop their own 543 from the bottom I think they did a huge mistake by label it XP, it aint what we expect from an XP machine.
Shouldnt be so difficult for them to make a mini 550 if they wanted to.

I can't totally agree, as the T540 was a completely new design - but otherwise I agree. They shouldn't have put the xp label on the 543.

Another thing I really dont understand with Husky is why they simply can't make a 539, based on the 540 but with rear handle, but no, what we get is 439.
No wonder why all the lads around where I live use lightweight Stihl's.

The 439 is another Zenoah, based on the 335T.

I see the 439 as the replacement for the 336, we are still waiting for the 339 replacement (likely based on the 540 and called 539xp?).
I don't think they are in a hurry though, as I believe the market for such small pro saws is pretty limited.

Considering how many saws get sold in the European sector that tend to be 50cc or Bellow !! I think they are missing a trick . mk 1 346…45cc wonderful saw and now a classic. With the new cylinders and materials a 40-45cc ,lite, compact, high HP,high revving for a 13-15 in bar …Well I would want one !

You can always hope that the 543xp is a STOP GAP, while something better is developed - but personally I consider the 550 small enough. The MS241 and the PS-420/421 both are bulkier than the 550, where it is important.

We can as you say …Hope ! Have a Nice new ps 420 sc on the way as you may have seen …Now i know you would take the 550 any day ! :D
If I don't think much of it for the sort of work i will give it ..then off it will go .:)

I agree that the marked for lightweight saws with rear handle isnt a huge seller, but, how come Stihl putting so much effort in that division?

No competetion game from my side, if I need a new saw underneath 50cc I grab an Stihl anyday.
One of the best saws I had is MS 200, huge mistake to let it go

I would consider the 543XP if I could get it with replaceable sprocket drum that had a 7 pin 3/8 LP sprocket! Use it with PS.

With the current supply situation, you would need a mini 7-spline or a standard 7-spline drum. There aren't any such rims for the small 7-spline (easily) available.

One theory is that they simply needed it more, after they replaced the MS260 with the rather large and unwieldy MS261 in the 50cc class. At least around here, it looks like the 261 "killed" the true Stihl dealerships, leaving only warehouses that also sell saws, preferably in the box (Felleskjøpet)....

No, I don't need a 550, and don't want a 261 - but I know very well how they feel in the hands. I stay with the 346 and 2153 for now.

Hopefully you aren't going to act the same way here, as you did on some other saw forums....

Is there a 3/8 LP spur drum that fits the 543XP?

Sawtroll theres no small mount picco rim for a 550xp? Ive been runnin a 3/8 rim with my picco bar
A better solution is to use the standard 7-spline drum of the 562xp, and a GB standard 7-spline Picco rim.

Using a regular 3/8" rim with Picco/lo-pro chain is like using a rim that is worn well past its intended life. It sort of works, but not very well.

Will the Stihl picco rims fit the 562 drum? I have Stihl picco rims

No, the Stihl Picco rims are for the mini 7-spline drums, not standard or small ones.

It is really odd that Oregon doesn't offer Picco (3/8" lo-pro really) rims for all the spline sizes mentioned - my guess is that some deal they have made with Stihl in the past is keeping them from doing it. Another possibility is that they don't want to encourage the use of set-ups that aren't recommended by the saw brands.

GB makes rims for the standard (might be a special order from a UK vendor), but not for the others.
