I am in the process of cleaning up my 550xp and unsnapped the intake, where the air filter clips on to, in order to clean it at the sink and it seems I shredded a small black gasket. Is it one that I can buy?

Also, I wasn't able to get it real clean b4 disassembly and now I havermeer everything off ro include piston. Do most of you shove a rag around the crank and blow off with air? I'm all ears...

I didn't tear it down to clean it. I had to check p/c as there was wear on the piston.

I have a 550 apart like that right now. I wonder if you could use something like Loctite 518 to re-seal it, along with whatever remains of gasket you can salvage?

As far as cleaning, I've been using hot water and a scrub brush, and just sealing off what I can. If you have the jug off, I would clean it, and then dry everything out. Splash a little mix around in the crankcase to lubricate and clean some more.

Thanks. I'm just going to try that. I got irritated and tore the whole gasket off.

To gasket that airfilter box together I would use something else then Locktite 518.
518 is a great sealant, but only on metal surface, and its layer thickness is also very limited.
There isnt any fuel flowing in the airbox, why not use silicone sealant?
