Usually on a 044/440 the gasket will change things about 17 or 18 thou, so if you measure .37 or so, IMO delete the gasket.

My 044 resulted in 20/1000 and my 440 19/1000 after the base gasket delete. I also took 20/1000 off the key for timing advance, which will give approx 6 degrees more advance.

Much easier to type 0.020" isn't it Mike?

Finally got around to checking squish. I have 0.029. I checked multiple times, checked different ways, and all came within 0.001. I guess it really isn't necessary in this saw. Did a timing advance after I cleaned up my crank threads from where I messed up the nut. I wouldn't have thought 0.020 off the key let it move that much. Did a muffler mod and a DP cover. All that is left is pulling the limiters and retuning. I have way too much to do tomorrow to finish and try it out. Hope to try it Monday!
