AM cylinders are sketchy. Get a recommendation for a decent brand before you buy one...then probably should still inspect and check timing. (Degree wheel, easy)

So here’s what I came up with, used the acid then sanded on it. It is smooth should be ok. I just don’t want to take out too much. Like I said before I have a new p&c on the way, I’ll get a piston and maybe try porting this later on see if I can do it.

I’d run that.

I need to take my 395 apart to weld some cracks and want to port it I think, probably this summer. Maybe we can do two?

The plating is a LOT tougher that you’d imagine. Can you catch a pick or fingernail on anything?

So I stuck everything back together to do a vac test, was bleeding just a little so I pulled the decomp and no more leak. How’s everyone deleting this. Just plug it off or?

I’d leave it in. They almost always leak under vacuum because they pull the valve in. Usually it can be held out by hand and it will hold. I wouldn’t want a 395 without a decomp

edited to say without a decomp

There's a few guys that roll big saws without compression releases, but most of them look like:

I don’t meet to sound arrogant, but I’ve never used it on my 395.

I used 1 on a 661 stihl the first time I started it. I don’t know why it was so much different.

The 661 (in my experience) has a little more static compression, but the 394/395's end up with more dynamic compression. The early 394s were the best - nearly factory hotrods.
