Use like mix gas to flush it with?Flush out the bottom end and see if anything comes out
It's hard to tell when some bearings are failing.

Goes in the 5 gallon bucket of old gas/diesel mix. Then use the air compressor.Send it to @Duce for a good cleaning first
Bearings and seals, just do it. Don’t understand hole by spark plug, but wouldn’t spark plug seal that? Let’s hear from @huskihl.
Went to the lil shop down the Rd for bearing an seals an got the last set of seals he had he said his son took the bearings to Tennessee to rebuild a 395. Said the guys name was randy I get snooping around an he has a whole pile of mmws's. Small world for sure.Bearings and seals, just do it. If it makes a difference with or without a bar and chain, you probably have bad clutch springs or clutch drum bearingOk quick update saw got new bearings a seals and rings. Piston cleaned up got it back saw runs as it should w/o b&c put a bar on it an it's the same won't hold a tune or idle right. Could this whole deal be a carb issue bc it's literally the same before bottom end rebuild
Forgot to add that in post bought a clutch, drum& sprocket the old one was toasty honestly didn't think that detail would matter. Also note I didn't split it an do the bearings an seals figured it was above my pay grade
