372XT flame thrower

Ok so I have this 372 that I have been cobbling together. It runs very poorly and will flame out the exhaust really bad. It has a new intake boot and the correct carb for an XT. I have tried swapping coils with known good ones thinking it could be a timing issue. It almost seems that fuel is getting into the strato ports and igniting as it blows out the exhaust. Any thoughts?

Check the flywheel key?

try taking the flywheel off see if you still have a flywheel key intact

If this is O.E.M. the key is cast/machined into the flywheel. Stating the obvious.

You sure you want to fix it? A 372 flame thrower sounds kinda fun...lol!
