371/372 starters

Is there a difference between the Husqvarna 371 and 372 starters? I noticed the bolt and bushing washer missing in mine I have checked the IPL and it shows the same parts except later 372 has a different part number for the starter but same bushing. With the new bushing in it it pushes the starter out on my 371.
The starter has been replaced at some point with a 372 starter.

There haven't been any changes that I'm aware of in the fitment of 365/371/372 starter/starter housings. Do you have everything lined up right?

There are different part numbers on the housings because they changed the gusseting and the number and arrangement of slots for air to enter the motor.

Also - where are you mounting the bushing? It goes in the end of the brake handle.

I've never noticed a fitment issue
And have used dozens of different vintages
Swapping parts
In between them.

Put the bushing in the brake handle hole like jacob j said and it will be ok.

I can’t see a bushing pushing the housing out like that. It looks in the picture that the starter housing isn’t lined up or seated properly so it’s pushed out.

I’ve swapped them over dozens of times and have never had an issue.

If you look close in pictures 2 and 3 you can see without the bushing the starter cover sets where it should. With it however it pushes out

Some of the aftermarket bushings are wider than OEM...I had to grind one down in order to use it.
