Cases from all I can tell are good. Bearings,seals and crank. Saw came to me with broken cylinder fins and something else but I can't remember at this time. I bought a new case,p/c that was a take off on ebay 250.00 shipped lower 48 The reason I bought the case off ebay was that it was complete wit p/c and the price of just p/c was to close to what the complete case cost on ebay and it was from nib. I believe they buy nib saws and dismantle and part out.

so are they actually stihl or chinese knock offs

As stated there is a ebayer that buys new in the box chainsaws and evidently he takes them apart and makes more money selling them one part at a time I bought a steel 500 I case from him that was OEM bearing seals crankshaft he had taken the piston and cylinder the tank all the fuel injected parts off and was just selling the crankcase I couldn't buy it from my dealer as cheap as he had it listed

This happens quite a bit with various different models (FS55 Stihl trimmer, for instance).
