The springs should have little "ears" to hold the shoes still. If they're not lined up or if the ears are busted off then that could cause your problem.

Yeah, did it a while back and I took it all apart and inspected and cleaned it put it back together and it’s been OK for a while and then it just did it again yesterday. Going to take it apart again tonight and see if I can figure out what’s up. I’m going to switch the shoes around and see if that does anything.

Is there a washer missing? Like not holding the edge of the drum far enough away from the clutch.

I didn’t notice anything last time…didn’t get to it last night, tried to go saw today but the wind is terrible…so I’ll go out to my saw shop in a bit and inspect again.

Tapped it out and it seems ok now…no washer…gonna run it. I love this little saw. 20” 8 pin monster.

I've stolen a shim washer from another one to get some clearance, even if it didn't originally have one.
