Simon,
I just went out and took as good a pic as I could get of the line arrangement for the purge bulb on my NE346. I believe the line you show in your pic is the supply line from the tank to the purge bulb. In my pic, this is the line toward the intake. The other line on the purge bulb connects to the carb. You can see a little of the copper line fitting on the carb.

I hope you can see what I mean in this pic. It was hard to get a good picture.

The carb actually has two line fittings on it. The one on the left as viewed from the operators position is the one that connects to the purge bulb.

Hi Joe
Thanks for looking at your saw ...i have the fuel line and the vent line connected and the saw was running . The long line is from the purge bulb and has a end with a flat on it so i think iv got a idea it fits close to something . Looking at the vent line that is connected to its nipple there is another one next to it that looks like it should be for the return from the purge bulb. It looks solid ended but im going to have a look in the tank with mirror and if i see a hole then i bet its the connection. The tank on this saw is new looking for the saws age and its got me wondering if the line was ever installed properly !

Certainly does seem strange.... I would say that the line connecting the purge to the carb enables the bulb to "pull" fuel through the carb, and once the bulb is full (also meaning the carb would be primed and full) the line you are speaking of should dump back into the tank.... I'm also wondering about the tank fitting for the return...

Note: after going over my first response a second time I realize I was incorrect about the function of the line in question. I do not believe it is the supply line for the bulb, but like you say, a return line from the bulb to the tank.

Sorted Joe.
Turned out there was a un trimmed input nipple right next door to the tank vent and i guess this saw has had a new tank some time but the nipple was never trimmed to expose the opening for the tube to be connected to . How someone thought fuel Piddling out the bottom of the saw after 2-3 pushes on the bulb was "OK" beats me ! Anyhow is works just as you would think now ...saw all back together..tested at 150 psi comp ..runs lovely but in need of a new clutch set /rim sprocket and chain. New "old" saw for my girlfriend so it must be right.

Glad you got it figured Simon..

I have yet to separate the tank from the crankcase on my 346 at this time, so the arrangement of the fuel lines at the tank end remained a mystery to me.
