268 closed window piston on an 038 super?

So why not just mill ports in it if it's workable and can be made to fit. I put windows in a windowless piston and it worked fine.

If you look at the posted pic the sides of the 268 piston are recessed, similar to the newer generation pistons for closed port Dolmars, though a bit different application as these Dolmars are bottom fed.

So may work fine as is though likely wouldn't hurt to ad small windows and maybe open up the bottoms on the lower transfers as much as is practical.

Looking at this slab sided 268 piston I have.....
No way I would feel comfy popping windows in it. There’s not enough meat n potatoes

Me too. There is 2mm to create one, leave the base gasket, reduce the squish and sort me a pop up as well

How would the windows affect things? 268 on the left, higher upper to the window. 038 super on the right. Pin to the piston skirt is similar on each. Need to do some measurements and get it on the lathe. Don't know how much meat will be left above the ring even after optimising the squish..

What piston is that from? The 268 one I have is not like that. Think mine is a standard 268, non xp.

I was more worried about the height of the window. It is quite different between the Husqvarna and Stihl

Might have to cut or sand the squish band then. I am determined to make this work. I have free time and plenty of 038 parts.. (apart from an 038 super piston lol)
