Gentlemen, I have a 2065, stock, bought well used from an old guy homesteader.
This was my first professional quality saw after years and years of bringing in firewood with a second hand 290 I bought in a parking lot for $150.
The Jred starts, idles and runs pretty well as is. Piston skirt area is dull grey, smooth, there are one or two hairlines I can see through the exaust on piston and one on far side of cylinder.
I am considering opening it up for a cylinder cleaning and a new piston. Or should I think about upgrading with a larger cylinder?

Those 48mm top ends are real nice runners, but if it has enough use to thin the piston skirts I would think about a complete overhaul. That model is pretty cheap to go through parts-wise. A complete OEM 50mm(372xp) top end is $126 on ebay. If your cylinder checks out you could just spend $35 or so on a 48mm Meteor piston.

If you are a firewood cutter, the stock size piston puts out plenty of power. My 2165 is one of my favorite saws to use cutting firewood when the wood gets too large for the 50cc saws.

As Tim CU says, '65 top ends are a good thing.
I just sold one, decarboned jug, new Meteor with a base gasket delete gave 170psi. Added another muffler port with a red97 deflector and it was right on the tail of my similarly modded 372s. It'll be the best $50 you ever spent.

I've not run ino a CP 2065, but, looking at the IPL'S, the intake boot and clamp show up as 372 style starting on the 04/98 IPL, which should indicate a closed port cylinder.

I have never handled a 372 but the components of this saw are the same as the IPL I have.
I am not familiar with the meaning of open or closed port. I could check what the porting is if I knew what I was looking at.
Thanks for the inputs, by the way.

The closed port cylinder uses a round clamp-on intake boot. The open port cylinder uses a bolt-on intake….that is the quickest way to tell what you have.
