Been gathering lots of birch firewood that I cut months ago.
I try to buck all my birch firewood in the fall through the winter before it soaks up sap in the spring and gets heavy. In the spring, you can fill a five gallon bucket worth of sap from a large birch, to make syrup. They get HEAVY. Then the bark is waterproof and holds in all that moisture. During the summer months, it seasons quicker when you get it bucked in the fall-winter.
Load after load after load. Before it all disappears in the tall grass. Been wearing the chipewas and the redwings. The chippewa's will need better insoles. Feet are sliding inside the boots and the insoles feel like a concrete floor.
The redwings have been excellent side hilling and stepping on brush. The redwing insoles have these gel areas under the heel and the toe area.
Took a break to go down to the river and check out the peregrine falcon nest along the cliffs. Wolves were chasing a cow moose with calf. The redwings were freaking awesome, climbing up shale n rock. That fire and ice tread is excellent. Redwing didn't cheap out, anywhere!
