066 Redeye cylinder

Hi all,do you think this is cylinder salvagable? Was caused by a broken OEM circlip.Running china p/c at the moment but would like to refit original cylinder.Can feel scores with finger nail.Would 800 w&d then scotch bright get it good enough.May get some Caber rings and already have a second hand piston.If the ring grooves cleaned up could i reuse the piston as the rings would still seal?

Man that really sucks. I've not seen an oem Stihl circlip get loose before. The cylinder may run ok after cleanup but I think the piston is done.

I would run it lightly clean up the port bevel.
Hone scotchbrite sand etc. Whatever method you choose.
I've run far worse.

+1 new piston stihl or meteor.

The aluminum will be bulged on each side of the gouge. Run a ring across it to check for high spots.

I'd clean that up and run it in a heartbeat. Think about how much material a finger port removes.... Bevel out the grooves like john mentioned and go!

I've used a lot of cabers they are my favorite but give them time to seat in the f cast are freakin hard if you get those lol

Take a small diamond ball burr and work those high spots. Then the bevels. A light hone and it should run fine.

I don't plan on using F rings.Are Caber rings advertised as F or do you have to enquire weather they are F or not.

That's all i received the last few years.
I wasn't given a choice that's what arrived.
Anyone know if there is a variety that can be ordered.

All cleaned up.Scores still obvious but no high spots and edges bevelled.
Ring seems to push past scores OK.

Do what Redfin said. Put a ring in the bore, in the correct direction so you can use a pick to pull it out at the top of the bore.

Make sure that the gap isn't riding over any port opening. Flip the piston over, close your eyes, and slowly push the ring up the bore with the piston a few times. You just gotta get past the exhaust roof.

If it smoothly rides to the top and you feel nothing catch, you're good. If you feel resistance in the same spot a few times, you are not good and you need to check things out.

Cut .050 off the base and and cut the band, bridge port that bad boy and raise the transfers, you'll never know it was ever damaged .

Done the ring test with the piston.Didn't feel any resistance so all good.

I finish every jug with a brake hone now. Cheap insurance that any small imperfections in the bevels I could have missed will be smoothed. Also any polished plating.

Hasn't failed me yet.
