I just listed this saw for sale, 5 minutes later a neighbor came over and asked about it, so we went out to the "log area" and tried it out, it always ran well, not a hiccup. This time around halfway through the second cut I thought to myself "seems down on power" then it abruptly stopped. Tried pulling it over and it just felt weird, so we went back up to the house, I pulled the muffler off and chunks of a ring fell out. Awesome LOL.

Pretty sure the cylinder is trashed, there is a 1/8" square chunk missing under the exhaust port. Anything obvious I did wrong here? It didn't seem to lean out or anything. Do rings sometimes just hang up and snap?

SO GLAD this happened here and not to whoever may have bought this, I got lucky. Looks like I'm building an O66 now LMAOIMG_20191229_165757.jpgIMG_20191229_165821.jpg

Did It get caught on chamfer. I love how you have torn saw down so fast. Did you warm up saw. Was it cold out? Was saw in a warm place and you took it outside to the cold?

It's really warm today, in the 50's, but I always let engines warm up. This saw is bone stock, it was an older guys firewood saw. Weird pattern on the cylinder walls, its like that all over.

Ring gap may have been too tight if they were new. It looks like it was working on the edges of the exhaust port for a while

Aftermarket top end huh?

You know I didn't even think about that, you saw that in that pic I took? cool lol, I paused this meth documentary, got my fat ass up and ran out to the shop and snapped a pic quick, sure enough, some no-name cylinder.

*s-word, I am so glad I didn't sell this. The saw looked so clean, didn't even cross my mind there might be an AM cylinder on it. Valuable lesson today.

It’s not the fact it’s after market somebody has messed something up along the way. Does any one know where you get a numbered cylinder like that shown in the picture

I have bought a few saws on here that had AM P&C and the sellers did not know :bash:

I woulda felt like a real a-hole if I sold this is as original, then it failed and then on top of that it was not an OEM top end.

I wanted to flip this thing and buy a chain grinder........oh well LMAO

Check the case to see if anything is rattling around in there. Check if all the washers are present and accounted for. I still think it could have been a foreign object that finally made its way to destruction. Especially since the saw's been apart and "rebuilt". Don't ask me how I know this.

If it felt low on power before the big bang, I’d guess the ring cracked before it hung.
AM junk.
You dodged a bullet.
Now you get to rebuild it right, fall in love and keep it forever!

It's coming completely apart now. New stuff, carb I want, fun machine work and grinding on cylinder etc.

Check a bearings for any metal or abnormal feel or wear. Once you have new piston and cylinder pressure test and vacuum test saw or it won’t last and you’ll be back to square one.

I could tell by the shape of the posts and the plating on the squish band. Looks out of round even....

There is a used non decomp 066 cylinder and piston on eBay. Better snag it.
