064 cyl plating question

Can anyone confirm my suspicions that the plating is worn just above the inlet port?

I dunno.

But thinking it through, the areas of the jug, just above or below a port opening, will be first areas susceptible to normal area; as the ring will bulge slightly out as it passes such an opening.

And of course there will be a very slight delay as it moves back inside the groove.

Maybe better chamfering/radius of the port lip reduces this phenomenon ?

Yeah I think your theory sounds pretty spot on.

That's from poor filtration. I bet the intake side of the piston skirt is very worn as well.
It will run a long time like that with a new piston and a better filter.

I was looking at the cross performance mmws top end but I think I'll take srcarr52's advice and just chuck a piston in it.

I'd say run it till it no longer has decent power. That will probably take a long time if you keep a decent filter on it.

You see this kind of damage on concrete saws all them time. They'll wear the intake skirt paper thin before they lose enough compression for someone to notice it's hurting.
