I have a nice 048av for sale that I recently went through. Saw was locally owned and used for firewood with a 20 inch bar since new. The owner's son straight gassed it about 20 years ago, and he gave it as a gift to me.

The OEM cylinder cleaned up very nicely. I used a new Proline piston kit for it, and used OEM circlips. Base gasket is deleted, running 25 thousandths I believe.

The ignition was a stumper. I got a 1-piece coil for it and ordered the corresponding flywheel from Chainsawr a month ago, but got the wrong part. He still hasn't gotten the right part to me, so I put a degree wheel on the saw and used a timing light to set the flywheel position sans keyway for now. At first, it was too advanced at 32 degrees, but runs great now at 25 degrees.

I installed an aftermarket tank vent and had to fix the kill switch wire. Sick custom felling dog.

The thing is loud as heck. You can feel the power in your hands.

$550 $450 plus ship PHO, or make me a trade offer. I want a 372...

Anybody want to make a trade? I'd take a 372, 288, 385/390, projects, port job(s), etc. Something interesting.

I have to say, this saw runs like a frickin bat outta hell. I just did a bunch of cookie cutting with it today to break it in and check the tune, and I am thoroughly impressed. If parts were still readily available for these, I'd run this thing right along the 044 or 460 all the time. 18" dry pine could not slow it down - I felt like I could lean as hard on it as I wanted. And it was fast.

Reduced to $450 plus shipping. I just found out that Proline has come out with some more parts to support the 042/048, including the illusive master control lever, clutch cover, and crank seals that until recently were impossible to find. That alone might be enough incentive to run this saw without fear instead of keeping it on the shelf for a potential buyer.
