Just rebuilt 2 10mm 044's earlier this year. Everything was fine till yesterday. The owner calls me up and says one won't start. Take it home. Exhaust side of piston is melted. The only thing I can find is the PTO seal with the bushing when NOT at top or bottom dead center is now leaking. So question. Since there is no o-ring between the sleeve and the bearing. Is there sealant used in there? I gotta give my buddy a call and give him the bad news.

The clutch spider is used to press the sleeve against the crank and not spinning by itself. I use a bit of sealant as well but the factory seems to use nothing.

I took the cylinder off. It "looks" like the bottom ring broke. It's in 3 pieces. A small part seems to have broken and was rubbing everything wrong. At least that's the running theory atm. Either that. Or the oil pump gave out. Got things to hot and there she went.

Can you change a 10mm to a 12mm without changing the crankshaft?

I am assuming no. But I also don't know.
