So this last week @Heffalump dropped this beauty off to be woke up a little bit. 20161022_002359.jpg 20161022_002613.jpg

It's going under the burr for port work and muffler mod. It'll also get new seals and carb kit.
All tore down and almost ready to get grinding.20161022_023324.jpg 20161022_023317.jpg

This things days of getting pushed around by a stud 034 super are over. Lol

Looks like a nice 12 mm 044.

I would love to see a 3 stage review:

1) stock,

2) After "non porting" mods, including dp muff cover, HD-2 filter, timing advance (I like 20/1000), and base gasket delete, then

3) after porting.

I've already cut the squish and base so it's too late for anything beyond the vid I have if it stock with dp muffler cover.
I might put a ks slant fin on it to compare it to the stock video. It's a one + casted cylinder.

Question: What is the effect on the jug after cutting the squish band with regard to the cylinder plating? Are these Nikasil inside?

They usually don't plate the chamber. Sometimes they'll let the plating get up around the edge of the band, but it isn't the design. Coating the chamber in my opinion would be a bad thing because the harder metal holds heat longer and a two stroke needs all the heat dissipating quench it can get.

You mean the coating doesn't cover the area above ring travel? Interesting. I did not know that. I just assumed that it was all plated since it would be easier to plate it all than to cover a portion in order to avoid plating.

The walls are plated, the roof is not. I've seen after market cylinders with the plating too low or extending onto the roof. Most OEM plating goes right to the corner. You would have to cut an awful lot off the squish band for it to interfere with ring travel.

Almost back together with it. I should have a video of it later today. I would like to have had it done yesterday and put some run time on it but I ran into a huge distraction with my neighbors literally having an all day eviction party. Complete with fighting, threats with weapons, and multiple visits by the cops. I tried to ignore it but it would just get louder and more violent to the point where I couldn't look away. I honestly thought guns were coming out.
Hopefully it is all done and over because he moved in next door to where he just left. Side by side driveways too.

Jules and I plan on driving down the weekend of the 5th/6th. She is running a trail race at Silver Falls, so we'll stop in and play chainsaw games while we're down there. If @sawfun brings his 026 by my place this weekend, I'll bring it to you then.

Additionally, should I order the J52E rings and have them sent to you? Do you think you'll get around to popping that jug off before next weekend? No biggie really, but if you got a chance to replace the crank seals on that guy for me I'd be eternally grateful....as well as pay your fee for it of course..... ;)

Keeping an eye out for the 044 video. I noticed that I made the shot for the Stihlqvarna #2 video. You can see my jaw drop when you leaned that thing forward. It was absolutely amazing how effortlessly that thing ate that log.

I'll be busting into the red ones here later today. I'm done with the 044 and I'll be posting the before and after as soon as I figure out how to splice videos or find an editor that does it in high quality.

Here it is eating some wood..

Before any modifications running factory dual port muffler cover:

First cuts after port work. Running the same bar and untouched chain. I didn't sharpen it or touch it up between videos. I'm sure it'll get a little stronger after full break in.
