I recently came across an 038 needing repairs. Just wondering would anybody no which model I have by the serial number 7649303 gave dealer the number but they reckon they couldn't find any information on it

Use the chop stick or drinking straw method to measure bore. Take off the muffler, put the stick/straw into ex port parallel w center of port until you hit the intake wall, then turn engine over to dent the stick w the piston crown and the ex port opening. Measure the distance.
038 standard is 48mm, Super is 50mm and Magnum is 52mm.
Heavy saw but pretty much bulletproof. Lots of magnesium. Air filtration kinds sucks. It’s the model the 044 replaced.

The 038 AV has a hemi domed piston and an off set chamber . This series was only superceded in North America because it could not meet EPA standards .It morphed into the 380 and 381models .Other than that they are almost bullet proof .--Heavy is in the eye of the beholder because they aren't to me .
