I bought an 028 off ebay and am trying piece together a working saw to replace my Poulan. I also have a case but the PTO is broken off the crank.
The mostly complete one will run with a squirt of pre-mix, it needs a muffler and a chain adjuster.
The one with the broken PTO needs a parts saw with a broken case.
Also I noticed the saw pictured has flat tip screwdriver screws and the case and crank have the T27 screws, what time frame did this transfer happen?
I'd appreciate ya'll keeping an eye out for parts, If I keep going the ebay route I going to end up with the 6 million dollar 028.

Some of the early of that series did use slotted head screws .My advice if you are going to do a rebuild is to replace them with torx heads .Then you have a choice either pay a kings ransome at a dealer or
buy them from after market for a fraction of the price .
Now then parts saws are about the same .Buy them from the forums or E-bay and pay though the nose .An option I use is visit a friendly dealer and find one in the dead pile .Believe it or not there is such a thing as a friendly Stihl dealer you just have to find one .
Restoration is a learning curve not everybody can adhere to .If it were easy anybody could do it .I've been at it so long I've dealt with sellers from the east coast to the west coast including Canada .For example it once took me two years to find the parts to rebuild two Partner P-100's which are a fine example of Swedish engineering .99 cc's of raw power and I didn't have that much money in doing so .FWIW I've done a fair amont of Stihl's too as I'm unlike some not brand loyal .

I was thinking of more of a Rust-o-ration, if it's too pretty I won't use it. And the firewood guy I fix saws for some times shows up with 5 broken and dull saws and needs something now now now. I don't want hand him my shelf queen. Shabby but neat.
And Bill I'm interested, but let me check local and I can't figure out how to do a PM.
