Hey I just got my hands on this dirty girl thinking she would be a good project/parts saw only to notice that even without the muffler it had great compression and was squeaky clean inside the problem is the owner I got it from didn't know if it was an 024 or an 026. I took a chance because the price was right either way and that decomp/adjustable oiler combo looked promising but honestly I can't tell either. Can anyone help me out?

i dont think they made a 024 with a decomp
you can measure the bore the 024 is 42 mm and the 026 will have a 44 or 44.7 mm bore
I didn't think so either but I didn't know if it could have been an 024 avs (super) I really don't know.

Looks like the air filter and air filter cover are off of a 026 pro. Looks like the correct carb for the airfilter.

How about a few pictures of the cylinder without the cover on!

If it's all original that is an 026 filter cover. The 024's were smaller and had a screw release knob Me thinks like the picture added.

At this point I'm fairly certain this is a 026 Pro but here's that topless pic

I vote for the o26 PRO. That's why I have two of them:
Stihl 026 PRO.JPGTruly a classic saw, it will run dead even with my Husqvarna 350. I never know which one to pick up and take to the field.

Well folk I did some scrubbing on the top cover with simple green and some 00 steel wool and this is what I got. I think that ought to settle it.

If it has the decomp valve and it works, then there is a good chance it's a PRO.

Yeah it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck... Other than not having a muffler on it, looks to me like it's a bone stock 026 pro.

Well guys here it is one last time as it cameIMG_20200405_192212.jpg
And here it is all cleaned up and put back togetherIMG_20200406_170304.jpgThinking about just spraying some high temp clear coat on the bar and maybe throwing on some Chinese plastics (covers and hoses) on it after I get the muffler on and modded up. Unless anyone knows somebody with some decent original covers they could be convinced to part ways with?
